Our primary service is one-to-one befriending, provided through volunteer befrienders. One to one befriending usually requires the befriender to visit a carefully matched service user once a week and have a chat and cup of tea.
Friendships can develop out of these introductions, and many of our volunteers are happy to take dogs for walks, accompany their friend on shopping trips or do other small household tasks.
However, we operate within guidelines and provide our volunteers with training before introducing them to their service user.
Other services we offer are:
- Weekly Social Lunches & Outings
- Craft sessions
- Music Groups
- Monthly Bingo & lunch
- Film Shows
- Transport as needed to other lunch/social groups
( See Social Activities Link for further Information on social events )
We take referrals for our services from family, friends, neighbours, social care workers, as well as from the elderly person too. If you are making a referral as a third party you must ensure that you have their consent before we make contact with them.
If you would like to make a referral please call us on 833025 or complete the referral form on our Contact Us page and return it to the address shown.
We thoroughly vet all our volunteers, which includes a full police check, two satisfactory references and at least two face to face meetings with potential volunteers before we take them on.
Through our initial meetings with the service users and with the volunteers we find out information about the individuals and using information such as hobbies or backgrounds we carefully match the two parties to this so that there is common ground.
We attend on the first couple of visits so that we can be sure that there is a mutual spark on which a friendship can be built.
